level?<\/li>\n<li>\nAre their MAP scores consistently high in the subject area you\u2019re considering? RISD uses 92% as a guideline for this consideration.\n<\/li>\n<li>\nWhat other test measure of indicators have been considered?\n<\/li>\n<li>\nWhat is your goal in accelerating your child?\n<\/li>\n<li>\nIs your child able to take one or more rigorous three-hour paper and pencil tests (CBEs) as part of the acceleration process?\n<\/li>\n<li>\nIf your child is still very young, have you considered the risks in not yet knowing how they will develop academically and\/or socially?\n<\/li>\n<li>\nFor secondary students, have you considered your child\u2019s interests, strengths, and course trajectory?\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3203c95 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"3203c95\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">What is Credit by Examination (CBE)?<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-635225d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"635225d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul>\n<li>\nCredit by\u00a0Examination (CBE)\u00a0the test RISD uses for\u00a0students\u00a0to show\u00a0proficiency in grade-level or course content.\u00a0Per state and district policy,\u00a0CBEs cover all assessable\u00a0standards\u00a0for the subject area or course\u00a0and a student must score 80% or higher to be considered proficient.\n<ul>\n<li>\nEach CBE is a rigorous, three-hour pencil and paper test.\n<\/li>\n<li>\nStudents in elementary schools may accelerate in single subjects or grade levels based on CBE results.\n<\/li>\n<li>\nSecondary students may accelerate or earn course credit towards graduation requirements.\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-80080f1 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"80080f1\" data-element_type=\"widget\" id=\"process\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">How does the acceleration process work?<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-596381b elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"596381b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\nFamilies must first talk to their child\u2019s Advanced Learning Teacher and\/or counselor.\u00a0If this conversation results in deciding it may be appropriate for your child to take a CBE, you\u2019ll be put in contact with Sara Mooney to discuss registration details. Parents should not contact Ms. Mooney before talking with their child\u2019s teacher and\/or counselor.\n<ul>\n<li>\nRISD pays for a first attempt if the family has talked with their child\u2019s teacher and\/or counselor then Sara Mooney. The first attempt CBE is a state-approved, in-person paper and pencil test created by the University of Texas and administered by RISD proctors.\n<\/li>\n<li>\nIf a child does not score the required 80% or higher, they may make a second attempt. Second attempt CBEs are created by Texas Tech University, approved by the state, and administered online by third-party service. Families must speak to Sara Mooney for instructions on registering.\n<\/li>\n<li>\nIf a family registers their child for a CBE (first or second attempt) without first speaking to their child\u2019s teacher and\/or counselor as well as Sara Mooney, RISD reserves the right to not accept the test scores and permit the child to accelerate.\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-889bc61 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"889bc61\" data-element_type=\"widget\" id=\"consider\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">What else should I consider?<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6305092 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"6305092\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Please also be aware of the following:<\/p>\n\n<ul>\n<li>\nA child\u2019s academic success in their current grade or love of a topic is not a certain indicator of readiness to accelerate through the next grade.\n<\/li>\n<li>\nElementary students:\n<ul>\n<li>\nElementary subjects layer on one another. It may be most appropriate to talk to your child\u2019s teacher about differentiating within the classroom.\n<\/li>\n<li>\nIf your child scores 80% or higher on a CBE and accelerates, the campus will do the best they can to accommodate the child\u2019s unique schedule. Class times may not align perfectly.\n<\/li>\n<li>\nIf your child accelerates in elementary math, you\u00a0may choose if their 5th grade (LHLC) or 6th grade math class will be a zero-hour online class taught by an RISD math teacher or if they will transport your child to the feeder middle school\/junior high for class each day. For acceleration in other subjects, you will choose between an online asynchronous class through Texas Tech University or transporting your child to the feeder middle school\/junior high for class.\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\nSecondary Students:\n<ul>\n<li>\nSecondary CBEs are made up of two rigorous three-hour pencil and paper tests on content they have not been taught. A student must score an 80% or higher on each CBE to accelerate.\n<\/li>\n<li>\nIf your child accelerates, the campus will do the best they can to accommodate scheduling, particularly as students wish to enroll in specialized programs and advanced courses.\n<\/li>\n<li>\nColleges may or may not view acceleration as an indicator of academic success and readiness.
