Counseling Support

If a student or parent needs counseling support, they should contact their school counselor first. In addition, the Counseling Helpline is a resource for RISD families at 469-593-7472. Please leave a message with your name and school and a counselor will call you back within 24 hours. In the event of an emergency, please call 911 right away.

Student Device Support

Parents of students in grades K-12 who do not have a student device may contact their campus administration or campus technical assistant to have them request one. 

Parents who need technical support with a student device should contact their school technology support staff member.

Free or Reduced-Cost Internet Access

RISD is not associated with any Internet service provider and cannot assist with obtaining, setting up, maintaining or troubleshooting home Internet access.

Various Assessments Impacted by the Pandemic

    • On March 16,2020, Texas announced it is waiving STAAR standardized testing requirements for the 2019-2020 school year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Learn more
    •  ACT Junior district testing dates for Spring 2020 were canceled. Junior students can pay and register to test for an ACT national college admission tests on one of the testing dates provided directly through ACT.
    • The College Board, which owns the SAT test, announced it has canceled its exams scheduled for this summer. If it’s safe from a public health standpoint, they will provide weekend SAT administrations every month through the end of the calendar year, beginning in August. Learn More
    • The August 29 SAT test at Richardson High School has been canceled due to the July 17 Dallas County Order.  The order states that all in-person school related activities and extra-curricular activities discontinue in Dallas County through Labor Day.  Students who previously registered to the take the SAT test on August 29 who would like to inquire about another testing site, testing refund or register for a future SAT test, may visit

    • The College Board has also announced that, due to school closures, AP exams cannot be administered as usual. The College Board is planning to provide all AP exams through a secure online test for each course. On April 3, the College Board released a full exam schedule and specific free-response question types that will appear on each AP exam. RISD teachers will be working with students to prepare them for this new testing format.

    • The College Board is also providing free AP review classes which began Wednesday, March 25. Students and parents can learn more about exam changes and instructional supports by clicking here.Working alongside the College Board, RISD is providing an opportunity for students to receive a refund for AP Exams.
