Personal Communication Devices (PCDs)<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a356707 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a356707\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li>What\u2019s changing? Starting September 1, 2025, all Texas public schools must adopt a policy that prohibits a student from using personal communication devices (phones, smartwatches, tablets, etc.) throughout the school day, including passing periods. The policy may completely prohibit a student from bringing a personal communication device on school property or the policy may designate a storage method for the device while the student is on school property during the school day.<\/li><li>Allowed exceptions: Devices are permitted for students if it is necessary:<ul><li>To implement an individualized education program, 504 plan or a similar program or plan;<\/li><li>To implement documented medical needs based on a directive from a qualified physician; or<\/li><li>To comply with health or safety requirements imposed by law or as part of the district\u2019s or school\u2019s safety protocols.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Enforcement: Violation of the rules may lead to confiscation, parent notification, loss of privileges, and other actions as outlined in the Student Code of Conduct.<\/li><li>Why? In addition to complying with state law, the goal is to reduce classroom distractions, limit cyberbullying, and help students focus on learning.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8564488 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"8564488\" data-element_type=\"widget\" id=\"6\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">House Bill\u202f6 \u2013 Student Discipline Reforms<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f703a0c elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"f703a0c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li>Stronger tools for campuses: School leaders now have greater flexibility to manage behavior. Key changes include:<ul><li>No time limit on in\u2011school suspensions (ISS); schools must review placements every 10 school days.<\/li><li>Out\u2011of\u2011school suspensions (OSS) capped at three (3) school days per incident.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Younger students &amp; vulnerable populations:<ul><li>Now eligible for OSS if involved in serious issues (e.g., threats, major disruptions, weapons).<\/li><li>Pre\u2011K\u2013grade\u202f2 students can face OSS for repeated, serious disruptions.<\/li><li>Homeless students can also receive OSS for serious misbehavior; however, staff must explore alternatives first.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Expanded alternatives: Schools may place students in disciplinary alternative education programs (DAEPs) for serious infractions\u2014even those occurring off campus\u2014and can utilize virtual DAEP options.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>House Bill Updates House Bill\u202f1481 House Bill\u202f6 Student Services House Bill\u202f1481 \u2013 Personal Communication Devices (PCDs) What\u2019s changing?
