HB 6 modifies the discipline code to give schools more flexibility in addressing ongoing violent and disruptive behavioral issues as well as other issues. Superintendent Branum* and Asst. Superintendent Matthew Gibbins* were in Austin to testify in support of the bill. <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1k59fksgkK2i1ldtQQfg7pU8zpSe4r7FF\/view?usp=drive_link\">Click here for more information on HB 6<\/a>.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The committee also heard bills that would prohibit cell phone use in schools during instructional time (HB 1481).\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>See other bills that were discussed <a href=\"https:\/\/capitol.texas.gov\/tlodocs\/89R\/schedules\/html\/C4002025031808001.HTM\">here<\/a>.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Texas Senate sends education bills to the House:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>SB 10 &#8211; <\/strong>Requires the display of the Ten Commandments in classrooms\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>SB 11 &#8211; <\/strong>Requires school boards to vote to implement a policy that would provide a daily period for prayer and reading of religious texts; student participation would be voluntary\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>SB 12 &#8211; <\/strong>Relating to a Parent Bill of Rights (no DEI, right to transfer, increases transparency, etc.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>SB 13 <\/strong>&#8211; Relating to parents rights regarding school library materials<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>SB 569 &#8211; <\/strong>Relating to the provision of virtual education in public schools\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Next Week In Austin<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Watch House committee hearings live stream <a href=\"https:\/\/house.texas.gov\/videos\">here<\/a>.&nbsp; Watch Senate hearings <a href=\"https:\/\/senate.texas.gov\/av-live.php\">here<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>March 25 &#8211; House Public Education will hear<strong> HB 7<\/strong> &#8211; the House version of parental rights and <strong>HB 124<\/strong> &#8211; to increase the school safety allotment from $10 to $14 per student and from $15,000 per campus to $37,000 per campus for required armed security officers.
