Any bill that did not receive a floor hearing by last Tuesday night is officially dead. While we lost a few good proposals, we also saw many problematic bills fail to advance\u2014clearing the way for more focused legislation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Where Things Stand<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of today, approximately&nbsp;<strong>106 education-related bills<\/strong>&nbsp;are still in play and are likely to pass in some form. Here&#8217;s a breakdown:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>77 bills<\/strong>\u00a0have been approved by both the House and Senate and are awaiting final procedural steps before heading to the Governor&#8217;s desk.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>21 bills<\/strong>\u00a0have already been\u00a0<strong>signed into law<\/strong>\u00a0by the Governor.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>29 bills<\/strong>\u00a0are headed to\u00a0<strong>conference committees<\/strong>, where differences between House and Senate versions will be reconciled. These will be closely negotiated over the next two days, with final decisions expected by\u00a0<strong>Monday<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><tbody><tr><td><strong>Major Bills to Watch<\/strong><br><strong>HB 2<\/strong> &#8211; Funding: This bill has encountered some technical issues, but discussions between the House and Senate are ongoing and are expected to be resolved soon\u2014possibly today or tomorrow. A favorable vote from both chambers is expected and forthcoming.<br><strong>HB 4<\/strong> &#8211; Accountability: This bill remains at an impasse. The Senate version incorporated language from\u00a0<strong>SB 1926<\/strong>, while the House made significant revisions based on feedback from superintendents and education specialists. Despite the collaborative effort on the House side, the two chambers are still far apart. We\u2019ll be watching closely in the coming days to see if a compromise can be reached.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Legislative Corner is published periodically throughout the 89th Texas legislative session.
