Families will continue paying the full meal prices until they submit a new free and reduced meal application for 2025-26 and qualify for benefits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why It Matters<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>It is very important that RISD families who might be eligible for free and reduced meal benefits complete the&nbsp;Free &amp; Reduced Meal Application&nbsp;each year to receive the benefits. In addition, your application helps RISD students and schools receive&nbsp;student fee waivers, Title I, and State Compensatory Education funding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If eligible, this funding directly benefits&nbsp;<strong>your child<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>their school<\/strong>&nbsp;through:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Additional employees to support learning<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>More classroom technology<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tutoring and intervention services<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Professional training for teachers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>When families apply, everyone benefits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"> Important Deadline<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>As we\u2019ve already mentioned, the free and reduced meal applications can be submitted at any time throughout the school year. However,&nbsp;October 30 is another important date in this process for families and schools.&nbsp;Why, you may ask?School districts must submit student data, including the number of students eligible for free and reduced-price meals, by this timeline, to the\u200b\u200b Texas Education Agency (TEA). TEA then uses this data to determine a school district&#8217;s funding.&nbsp;By families completing the application before or by October 30, it will not only help your children to receive free and reduced meals if you qualify for these benefits, but this also helps our district to receive state and federal funding that supports teachers and student programs and resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"> More Than Just Meals<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Completing your application can unlock&nbsp;major perks&nbsp;beyond breakfast and lunch:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Technology Savings:&nbsp;Discounted internet access and RISD Chromebook insurance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Academic Fee Waivers:&nbsp;Reduced or free fees for SAT, ACT, AP exams, UT OnRamps tuition, and even college and NCAA applications.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Free Test Prep:&nbsp;Access to free SAT\/ACT preparation courses through our partnership with SMU.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Summer Learning Discounts:&nbsp;Pricing for acceleration and summer credit recovery courses is based on Free\/Reduced status.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to Apply<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s quick and confidential\u2014only&nbsp;one application per family&nbsp;is needed.
