Spanish is the most requested language, and other frequently spoken languages include Pashto, Amharic, Arabic and Farsi. These languages represent the culture of RISD\u2019s diverse student population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On a yearly basis, the department provides interpretation and translation services:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For thousands of RISD parents and guardians&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Translates over 65,000 translated words across district communications (this is Spanish ONLY)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These efforts are led by Teresa Ord\u00f3\u00f1ez, from the district\u2019s Strategy and Engagement team. Ord\u00f3\u00f1ez joined RISD in 2020 and oversees the district\u2019s translation and interpretation services, managing both internal workflows and contracted language service teams to ensure timely, accurate, and culturally responsive language access across the district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLanguage access is about dignity, trust, and belonging,\u201d says Ord\u00f3\u00f1ez. \u201cWhen families can fully understand, ask questions, and be heard in their home language, they can truly partner in their child\u2019s education.
