Under her leadership, the campus has strengthened academic and social outcomes through strategic planning, targeted professional development, and meaningful engagement with staff, families, and community partners. Her work has cultivated a positive, inclusive school culture and significantly improved student engagement and performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Previously she served as Principal of Merriman Park Elementary, where she implemented effective instructional programs. Earlier in her career, she was Assistant Principal at Forest Meadow Junior High (now FMMS), designing and supporting programs tailored to diverse learners while building strong stakeholder relationships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She holds a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from Texas Tech University, a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from the University of North Texas, and a Bachelor of Arts in English Composition from the University of North Texas. She also holds Superintendent Certification, further strengthening her qualifications as a district-level leader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Burt has received numerous recognitions, including Secondary Principal of the Year in 2023. She is a Principal IMPACT Graduate and was named Lead Principal in 2025. Under her leadership, a campus earned all seven TEA distinction designations. A proud graduate of Richardson ISD, he has built his career on the belief that strong school culture, grounded in authentic relationships and daily presence, creates the foundation for lasting academic success. His leadership style emphasizes a \u201cboots-on-the-ground\u201d philosophy, prioritizing staff empowerment and student belonging to drive meaningful, system-wide change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As Principal of West Mesquite High School in Mesquite ISD since 2023, Dr. Simmons has led a period of rapid and measurable growth. In his first year, the campus improved its accountability rating from a C to a B, while significantly increasing its College, Career, and Military Readiness (CCMR) outcomes. The school went on to achieve the highest CCMR score in its history &#8211; 93 and a 91 in \u201cClosing the Gaps\u201d. His leadership has focused on aligning systems, strengthening instruction, and building a culture where staff collaboration and student belonging drive results. He has also implemented structures to improve attendance, reduce tardiness, and ensure that gains are sustainable over time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before becoming a high school principal, Dr. Simmons served as Principal of McDonald Middle School from 2020 to 2023, where he successfully improved the school\u2019s accountability rating from a C to a consistent B while fostering growth in student achievement and campus culture. Prior to that, he was Assistant Principal at the same campus, supporting instructional leadership, professional development, and the implementation of restorative practices. His earlier experience includes teaching U.S. History at Mesquite High School and serving as a teacher and coach at Utley Middle School and Rockwall High School in Rockwall ISD, as well as Gatesville Junior High School, where he also held athletic leadership roles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He earned his Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from Texas A&amp;M University\u2013Commerce and holds superintendent certification. He also received his principal certification from Stephen F. Austin State University, a master\u2019s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Baylor University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Baylor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Throughout his career, Dr. Simmons has remained focused on building schools where systems are aligned, educators are supported, and students feel a strong sense of belonging. His leadership is defined not only by measurable results, but by his ability to bring people together around a shared vision and turn that vision into sustained success. Family engagement has remained a central focus, and through intentional strategies, he has consistently improved student attendance year over year. As a first-generation college graduate, she brings a deep personal commitment to expanding opportunities for all students, particularly those from underserved backgrounds. Her work centers on removing barriers to success, strengthening instructional systems, and developing educators into effective, mission-driven leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Ruiz most recently served as principal of Carolyn G. Bukhair Elementary, where she has led a remarkable campus turnaround. In her first year, she elevated the school\u2019s academic rating from an F to a B despite multiple staff vacancies. She has since focused on sustaining growth through strategic leadership development, coaching systems, and targeted professional learning. Under her leadership, teacher retention improved significantly, and the number of Texas Instructional Leadership (TIA) recognized teachers grew from 3 to 27 over five years. She also successfully managed a state Effective Schools Framework grant, aligning resources and systems to support long-term campus improvement. Her work emphasizes building internal leadership capacity, strengthening curriculum alignment, and fostering a culture of continuous feedback and growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before this role, Dr. Ruiz served as principal of Pleasant Grove Elementary in Dallas, where she transformed the school into a B-rated campus and earned multiple recognitions, including Gold Ribbon Campus status and designation as a Model School for bilingual education. She also achieved notable gains in school climate and student outcomes. Earlier in her career, she completed a principal fellowship at Walnut Hill Elementary, where she developed expertise in instructional leadership, teacher development, and campus operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Ruiz began her career in the classroom, teaching in dual-language and Spanish immersion settings, where all students were emerging bilinguals. She later expanded her impact by overseeing curriculum alignment across multiple grade levels, ensuring instructional coherence from early childhood through upper elementary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She holds a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from Southern Methodist University, a Master of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, and a Bachelor of Business Administration in International Business with a minor in French, both from the University of Texas at Arlington. She is biliterate in Spanish and has intermediate proficiency in French.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her professional excellence has been recognized with several honors, including being named Principal of the Year for Richardson ISD in 2025 and H-E-B Texas Principal of the year for the state of Texas, both in 2025.
