should be guided by RISD Board Policy; published professional reviews and knowledge of how materials would fit into the current collection.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Curriculum Support<\/h3>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tBooks in the library are designed to support content knowledge, process skills, or both. Books whose main subject do not appear directly in the TEKS are designed to support the development of reading and thinking skills. There is a correlation between interest-based reading selections and academic performance.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-aa8b930 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"aa8b930\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Alignment<\/h3>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-810a3f9 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"810a3f9\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Library and Information Technology Educators use information from their needs analysis including circulation data, student and family suggestions, curricular topics, and current events to identify student needs.<\/p>\n\n<p>A book needs to have at least <strong>two<\/strong> professional reviews for at least one of the grade levels they serve (or a level below) to meet these criteria. ONLY if <strong>two<\/strong> professional reviews cannot be located <strong>one<\/strong> review can be from an <strong>informal review*.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n \t<li>Elementary (PreK-6) \u2013 reviewed for grades PreK-6; use caution when considering books reviewed for grades 5-8; books coded YA may not be added.<\/li>\n \t<li>Elementary (PreK-5) \u2013 reviewed for grades PreK \u2013 5; use caution when considering books reviewed for grades 5-8; books coded YA may not be added.<\/li>\n \t<li>Middle School\/Junior High \u2013 reviewed for grades 6-8 or below; use caution when considering books reviewed for grades 7-12 or 8 and up.<\/li>\n<li>High School \u2013 reviewed for grades 9-12 or below. If multiple reviews are available, all reviews must be read in their entirety prior to making a decision.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7f5f61d elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"7f5f61d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Content<\/h3>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b0b60a6 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b0b60a6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tIn accordance with law and guidance from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, library materials shall not include \u201charmful material\u201d; any library material that is pervasively vulgar or educationally unsuitable; any library material containing indecent or profane content; any library material that refers a person to a web site, including by use of a link or QR code, containing content legally prohibited under law; or any other material legally prohibited from inclusion in a public school library. If eligible for purchase, these items must still meet all selection criteria. If the publisher designated age range spans multiple levels, the Library and Information Technology Educator must use both the publisher designated age range and research on the book to determine the primary target audience.<br \/>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr class=\"row-9 odd\">\n\t<td class=\"column-1\"><strong>ITEMS IN ANOTHER LANGUAGE<\/strong><\/td><td class=\"column-2\">If two professional reviews cannot be found for a specific translation, a book may still be purchased if the English language version meets all selection criteria.<br \/>\n <br \/>\nAuthentic literature titles may be purchased based on the summary provided by the vendor and publisher's age recommendation. If the publisher designated age range spans multiple levels, the Library and Information Technology Educator must use both the publisher designated age range and research on the book to determine the primary target audience.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr class=\"row-10 even\">\n\t<td class=\"column-1\"><strong>ITEMS ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED BEFORE 1970\/LITERARY CANON<\/strong><\/td><td class=\"column-2\">Professional reviews for classic books considered part of the \u201cliterary canon\u201d and religious or historical texts may not be available. In these instances, the book may still be purchased if research indicates it meets all RISD selection criteria. Books in the public domain are generally accessible online.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-60cee0b elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"60cee0b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">YOUNG ADULT (YA)<\/h3>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-520d29c elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"520d29c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Books written for grades 6-12 are designated as Young Adult (YA).\u00a0 Common themes in YA realistic fiction include friendship, getting into trouble, self-identity, coming of age, romantic and sexual interest, and family life.\u00a0 The text of a YA review is used to determine whether the title is suitable for middle school, high school, senior high school, or a combination.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-370cc4a elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"370cc4a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" id=\"material\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Material Inclusion<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-43d16cb elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"43d16cb\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ol>\n \t<li>All items, whether donated or purchased by the district, must meet the Richardson ISD selection policy.<\/li>\n \t<li>All items must meet standards of copyright law.<\/li>\n \t<li>All items must be available for the following:\n<ol class=\"alpha\">\n \t<li>Circulation<\/li>\n \t<li>Interlibrary loan (with the exception of specific professional materials)<\/li>\n \t<li>Checkout to all students and\/or all staff<\/li>\n \t<li>Searching in the online catalog<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n \t<li>All items may be subject to the following:\n<ol class=\"alpha\">\n \t<li>Limited loan periods<\/li>\n \t<li>ILLs\/holds<\/li>\n \t<li>Return to the library for inventory<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n \t<li>The following items will not be considered for inclusion:\n<ol class=\"alpha\">\n \t<li>Textbooks<\/li>\n \t<li>Ancillary textbook materials<\/li>\n \t<li>Consumables\/reproducibles<\/li>\n \t<li>Classroom sets<\/li>\n \t<li>Advanced copies (ARCs)\/unproofed editions<\/li>\n \t<li>Paperbacks<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n \t<li>Items may be rejected for inclusion based on the following:\n<ol class=\"alpha\">\n \t<li>Condition<\/li>\n \t<li>Age<\/li>\n \t<li>Content\/accuracy<\/li>\n \t<li>Format (i.e. obsolete media and\/or equipment)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n \t<li>No more than five (5) copies of a single title may be cataloged and circulated through the campus library, with the exception of specific reference materials.<\/li>\n \t<li>Archival copies of periodicals will only be kept as space allows.<\/li>\n \t<li>All considerations are subject to constraints of personnel, budget, and shelf space. These may include constraints of cataloging, circulation, maintenance, inventory, and storage.<\/li>\n \t<li>All items cataloged in the library become the property of the district on behalf of the campus.
