At the moment, the District is not currently in need of donated library materials. reflect the diversity of students and staff; and foster an understanding and appreciation of culture, class, language, ethnicity, and other differences that exist in society.<\/li><li aria-level=\"1\">Respect the rights and values of individuals and families.<\/li><\/ol>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-810a3f9 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"810a3f9\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In the selection of instructional resources, professional staff shall ensure that the resources:<\/p><ol><li aria-level=\"1\">Support and are consistent with the general educational goals of the state and District and the aims and objectives of individual schools and specific courses consistent with the District and campus improvement plans.<\/li><li aria-level=\"1\">Meet high standards for artistic quality and\/or literary style, authenticity, educational significance, factual content, physical format, presentation, readability, and technical quality.<\/li><li aria-level=\"1\">Are appropriate for the subject area and for the age, ability level, learning styles, and social and emotional development of the students for whom they are selected.<\/li><li aria-level=\"1\">Are designed to help students gain an awareness of our pluralistic society, fostering an understanding and appreciation of culture, class, language, ethnicity, and other differences that exist in society.<\/li><li aria-level=\"1\">Reflect the diversity of students and staff.<\/li><li aria-level=\"1\">Are designed to provide information that will motivate students and staff to examine their own attitudes and behavior; to understand their duties, responsibilities, rights, and privileges as citizens participating in our society; and to make informed choices in their daily lives.<\/li><\/ol>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-827f8c9 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"827f8c9\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-6ffa587\" data-id=\"6ffa587\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-99563c1 elementor-widget elementor-widget-menu-anchor\" data-id=\"99563c1\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"menu-anchor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-menu-anchor\" id=\"process\"><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c191d24 elementor-widget elementor-widget-spacer\" data-id=\"c191d24\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"spacer.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-spacer\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-spacer-inner\"><\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-57a5f28 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"57a5f28\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Reconsideration of Instructional Resources<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9eb1c59 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"9eb1c59\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Challenge of Library Material<\/h3>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-220feda elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"220feda\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<em>A district employee, a parent or guardian of a District student, or a District resident may challenge library material maintained in the District\u2019s library program.<\/em>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-511e225 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"511e225\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tAccording to Board Policy EFB(LOCAL), the following principles shall guide the review of a request to reconsider a library material:\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-131b929 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"131b929\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li aria-level=\"1\">An individual may challenge library material used in the District\u2019s library program, despite the fact that the professional staff, School Library Advisory Council (SLAC), and the Board followed the proper procedure, and adhered to the objectives and criteria for recommending and procuring\u00a0 library materials set out in this policy.<\/li><li aria-level=\"1\">Access to challenged material shall be restricted during the challenge process.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a61310c elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a61310c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tIn addition to compliance with state law and this policy, a criterion for the final decision on challenged library materials is the appropriateness of the material for its intended use. No challenged library material shall be removed solely because of the ideas expressed in the library material or the personal background of the library material\u2019s author or the personal background of the characters in the material.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fcd9f75 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"fcd9f75\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Formal Request<\/h3>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-683d5d0 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"683d5d0\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tIf an employee, a parent or guardian of a District student, or a District resident wishes to challenge library material, they shall follow the procedures to complete and submit the RISD Library Materials Challenge form.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5e8fda4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"5e8fda4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tNo later than the fifth day after the date on which a school district receives a written challenge, the district will provide a copy of the challenge to the SLAC. In addition to copies of the completed form being provided to the members of the SLAC in accordance with law, copies shall also be provided to the Board, the Superintendent, the Library and Information Technology Educator, and any other staff designated in administrative procedures.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-acbaaa1 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"acbaaa1\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Formal Reconsideration\n<\/h3>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-19810a2 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"19810a2\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe SLAC shall consider the challenge in accordance with Board-adopted procedures and in accordance with law and shall make a recommendation to the Board no later than the 90th day after the date on which the council receives the copy.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a95ceb8 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a95ceb8\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tAny meetings of the SLAC or a review committee must comply with the meeting requirements under Education Code \u00a733.024(g) and (h).\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f337981 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"f337981\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe Superintendent, the Library and Information Technology Educator, the individual submitting the challenge, and any other appropriate staff shall receive a copy of the SLAC\u2019s recommendation.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c175572 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"c175572\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe Board of Trustees shall take action at the first open meeting held after the SLAC has made a recommendation regarding the challenge. \t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-a55308a elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"a55308a\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-17ad326\" data-id=\"17ad326\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-74c8ad8 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"74c8ad8\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Appeal<\/h3>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-21ed628 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"21ed628\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tAn individual who submitted a challenge may appeal the decision of the SLAC to the Board in accordance with the challenge procedures.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a1223c9 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a1223c9\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tWhen considering the appeal, the Board shall consider the factors in Education Code \u00a733.027(f). The Board shall consider appeals in accordance with timelines set out in law.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b0ab2fc elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"b0ab2fc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Frequency of Review<\/h3>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e06516e elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e06516e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tAfter a library material has been challenged and the Board determines not to remove the library material from a school library catalog, it may not be challenged again before the second anniversary of the Board\u2019s final decision not to remove the material.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f143f74 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"f143f74\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Removal of Library Materials<\/h3>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a600616 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a600616\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tIf a challenge to a library material results in the removal of the library material from the school library catalog, each teacher assigned as the classroom teacher at the grade level for which the library material was removed shall be notified and instructed to remove any copy of the library material from the teacher\u2019s classroom library, if applicable.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-2bd22d0 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"2bd22d0\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-b17ffe5\" data-id=\"b17ffe5\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b243ec5 elementor-widget elementor-widget-menu-anchor\" data-id=\"b243ec5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"menu-anchor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-menu-anchor\" id=\"requestforms\"><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f93cb5f elementor-widget elementor-widget-spacer\" data-id=\"f93cb5f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"spacer.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-spacer\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-spacer-inner\"><\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9ccbf7a elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"9ccbf7a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Request Forms<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4583424 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4583424\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>You can contact your school LITE or campus administrator to obtain a form.<br \/><span style=\"font-size: 18px; color: var( --e-global-color-text );\"><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/web.risd.org\/libraryit\/wp-content\/uploads\/RISD-Request-for-Reconsideration-of-Library-Materials-Form.pdf\"><strong>You can also download the Request for Reconsideration of Instructional Materials form here<\/strong><\/a>.
