elementor-size-default\">English as a Second Language Program (ESL):\n<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-01cd0fc elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"01cd0fc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The goal of English as a second language programs shall be to enable limited English proficient students to become competent in the comprehension, speaking, reading, and composition of the English language through the integrated use of second language methods. The English as a second language program shall emphasize the mastery of English language skills, as well as mathematics, science and social studies, as integral parts of the academic goals for all students to enable limited English proficient students to participate equitably in school. All RISD campuses offer ESL services.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d71f7b4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"d71f7b4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" id=\"e\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Elementary ESL:<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f48ffad elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"f48ffad\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Elementary ESL is provided through a content-based model in which students identified as emergent bilingual students are served through English instruction provided by a teacher appropriately certified in ESL, using content-based language instruction methods in reading and language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. The goal is for emergent bilingual students to attain full proficiency in English in order to participate equitably in school.<\/p><p>Elementary students who have recently arrived to the US and are at beginner or intermediate level of English proficiency receive additional support from additional resources that accelerate English acquisition and development through reading, writing, speaking and listening.\u00a0 These resources include targeted instruction in foundational literacy skills.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-36e05b1 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"36e05b1\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" id=\"hmh\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">HMH Into Reading\n<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-45e4da3 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"45e4da3\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Beginning in the 2026\u201327 school year, all 36 RISD elementary campuses will begin using HMH Into Reading and \u00a1Arriba la Lectura! These state-approved High-Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM) provide engaging, research-based instruction that helps students build strong reading, writing, speaking, and language skills.
