FAQs
Registering a student does not automatically qualify a student for transportation. Families who live within two miles of school do not qualify for transportation under Texas guidelines unless there are circumstances such as special education services, homelessness, etc. Once a parent/guardian signs a student up, they will be notified by RISD transportation if they do or do not qualify.
Bus route times are intended as guide only. Riders need to be at the bus stop location 5-10 minutes earlier than the posted pickup time each day. Traffic or weather conditions on a given day are likely to impact how long it takes each bus to complete their route safely. Stop locations and service times are also subject to change – if this happens, parents of students signed up for a route will be notified. This is another important reason for students to be signed up for bus routes.
Yes. Parents should complete the bus transportation request form for each child, even if the children attend the same school. This ensures this is enough space on a bus for all registered riders, and also is an essential part of safety planning in the event of an accident or emergency.
Yes. This basic safety protocol ensures that only RISD students and employees are boarding RISD buses.
No. Students may not be allowed to board a bus if they have not been registered and approved for transportation services for that bus route based on qualification guidelines. Students may only board the bus for which they have been approved, and may not board other buses or routes.
