Counseling Services
RISD professional school counselors provide a comprehensive guidance and counseling program for all students to maximize academic achievement, college and career readiness and interpersonal/emotional development.
Overview
The Counseling Services department works as a team to offer information and advisement that enable students to choose and implement the most positive, appropriate and productive comprehensive education plan. Collaborating with nurses, psychologists, social workers, principals, other support staff, along with parents and community, the Counseling Services department functions as an integral part of the student’s educational program. The Counseling Services department participates in planning, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive, developmental guidance program to serve all students in RISD.
System Support
RISD professional school counselors support the efforts of teachers, staff, parents, and other members of the community in promoting the educational, career, personal and social development of students. Services in this area include counseling and guidance program coordination, accountability program review, suicide intervention and prevention training, consultation with staff concerning student needs, Campus Instructional Team participation, and community outreach.
Individual Planning
RISD counselors create an individual planning system to guide a student as the student plans, monitors and manages the student’s own educational, career, personal, and social development. Support includes academic counseling, ARD and §504 meetings, the 6 Year Plan, College Fair, Pathway to College and Career, interest inventories, and Mapping Your Future.
Responsive Services
RISD school counselors intervene on behalf of any student whose immediate personal concerns or problems put the student’s continued educational, career, personal or social development at risk. Some examples are small group counseling, crisis counseling for prevention, consultation with parents, suicide risk assessments, Food 4 Kids, dropout prevention and child abuse reporting.
Guidance
The RISD counselor develops a need based guidance curriculum annually to help students develop their full educational potential. This pro-active approach provides instruction using social, career and academic based material.

Official Transcripts
Richardson ISD has partnered with Parchment, a leader in eTranscript exchange, to send prior graduate high school transcripts electronically, securely and confidentially, to colleges and universities of your choice. The service is available online, 24 hours a day and seven days a week.
Alumni simply request a transcript and designate the academic institution, organization or individual that they would like to receive it. Users will be notified when their request is complete and can also track the status of their request or view a saved copy of their transcript.
