Memorial Park Academy is a newly expanded program in RISD that allows students to earn academic credits and potentially graduate in the structure of a non-traditional school day. Generally, the curriculum is self-paced and online. However, there will be some small group work and direct instruction. It is a program that offers students an accelerated, alternative to a traditional school setting. Once students complete their four-hour school day, they are free to address other responsibilities like work or care for family members. 

There are two sessions to choose from: 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. or 12:00 – 4:00 p.m. 

No, there is no direct cost. Memorial Park Academy is supported by taxpayers just as other RISD schools are. 

Memorial Park Academy is located at 410 S. Greenville Avenue, Richardson, TX 75081. 

Yes, bus transportation will be provided for each session at the closest elementary school. 

There will be four certified teachers, a counselor and a counselor intern.

Please see your school counselor for an application. Once the application is complete, students return it to their homeschool counselor, and they will send it to counselor at Memorial Park Academy to be set up for an interview.

If you don’t have a homeschool currently and are living in the district, you can fill out an online application and submit it to Program Director Bill Gallo. You will be contacted for an interview. 

As a general rule students come to Memorial Park Academy with 15 credits or above.

Each student will receive a diploma from their home school. 

Yes, students will be allowed to participate in the graduation ceremony of their home school.

Mr. Bill Gallo. Mr. Gallo has been with the District for more than 30 years as a teacher, assistant principal, principal and director.

Because the focus is on core curriculum and completion of graduation requirements, electives at the school are limited, and will be determined by student need.
