Employee Health and Safety
Overview
RISD intends at all times to provide a safe workplace for all employees. No employee will be knowingly required to work under unsafe conditions. In furtherance of these principles, RISD has developed and promotes a comprehensive program to ensure the safety of its employees, students, and visitors. The safety program includes guidelines and procedures for responding to emergencies and activities to help reduce the frequency of accidents and injuries.
Employees must:
- Observe all safety rules.
- Keep work areas clean and orderly at all times.
- Immediately report all accidents to their supervisor.
- Operate only equipment or machines for which they have training and authorization.
Safety Roles and Responsibilities
Risk Management, a division of the Insurance Services Department, administers RISD’s Safety and Loss Prevention Program and is responsible for coordinating safety activities throughout the district. The goal of this program is to enhance collaboration with principals, directors, supervisory personnel, Training/Safety Manager, and the Safety Committee.
Management/Supervisor Safety Responsibility
Management/supervisors are responsible for ensuring that safety procedures are communicated to all staff and that employees under their direction follow safety policies and procedures established by the district. They also are responsible for administering safety training and guidance to employees under their direction.
Employee Safety Responsibility
Each employee is responsible for following workplace safety rules and board policies and demonstrating a commitment to the safety program, and becoming actively involved in the program to assist in providing a safe and healthful workplace for all staff, students, and visitors.
