What is We Read Together
We Read Together is Richardson ISD’s volunteer initiative to champion early literacy skills for students. Students who enter school lacking reading readiness or who don’t read at grade level need additional interventions and resources to catch up to their peers. We know community volunteers and mentors play a pivotal role in advancing literacy skills, helping more students learn how to read, write, and play.
Since launching in 2022-23, We Read Together:
- Has been implemented on eight different campuses
- Helped nearly 85% of kindergarten students meet or exceed their MAP growth goal
- Raised approximately $92,000
- Supplied eight book vending machines to campuses
- Logged close to 3,000 volunteer hours!
Mission:
The mission of We Read Together is to ensure literacy success for all!
Objectives of We Read Together are:
- Equip students with literacy skills for school and life.
- Empower parents with literacy skills to assist their student at home and school.
- Engage in partnerships with the school community to create reading spaces and celebrate literacy.
- Ensure ALL students will be reading on grade level by third grade.
