We Read Together Volunteer Spotlight

Lisa and Robert Grinsfelder

"It is so rewarding to help a child prepare for a better future and for them to know that their community cares about them."

Volunteer Information

You must be at least 18 years old, pass a background check, and commit to at least one session per week. For more information on additional volunteer opportunities within We Read Together that are not a weekly commitment, please email risd@risd.org.

Follow this link below link to express your interest in volunteering for the We Read Together program. The information collected will help us learn more about you and better understand what supports you will need while volunteering. You only need to complete this form once.

RISD uses VOLY at risd.voly.org to manage volunteer opportunities throughout the district, including We Read Together. If you do not already have a VOLY account, you need to create one. All volunteers must consent to a background check. Once your VOLY account has been approved, you will receive a confirmation email with next steps to sign up for specific time slots.

Once you have been approved in VOLY, you will get the campus sign up link. Days and time slots will vary for each campus, therefore you can sign up for a slot as your schedule allows. Please note by signing up for a slot, you are committing to meeting with your student weekly. Campus testing, field trips, etc. vary and may affect weekly schedules. Weekly We Read Together newsletters will keep you informed of any schedule changes.

How Volunteering Works

Reading to students

We Read Together Volunteers will spend an hour each week assisting RISD students gain lifelong literacy skills that will empower them to have a love for reading! We know that the key to a young reader’s success is confidence. Each week you volunteer, you’ll be helping them build that confidence and will be a part of creating a literacy experience for students.
