The Social Studies Curriculum and Instruction team facilitates the development of a rigorous and relevant TEKS-aligned Social Studies Program taught with fidelity and continuity to prepare students to be informed critical thinkers and responsible citizens in a global society.

The primary purpose of social studies is to help students develop the ability to make informed and reasoned decisions for the public good as citizens of a culturally diverse, democratic society in an interdependent world.

If you have any concerns or suggestions, don’t hesitate to contact the Social Studies team.

Social Studies Instruction

Rigorous Social Studies instruction provides authentic student learning experiences through analysis of primary and secondary source materials. Students practice listening, speaking, reading, writing, and thinking like a social scientist to help them draw conclusions about the past and make sense of the world around them.

Our team provides teachers and administrators with on-going professional learning on high quality social studies instruction.

The Social Studies department offers students opportunities to practice real-world experience by participating in Enterprise City. Additionally, RISD Social Studies department partners with the Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum to provide students authentic learning experiences. The Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum tells the story of the Holocaust, the emergence of international human rights following the war, and the development of human and civil rights in America.
