Our Curriculum
RISD follows the TEKS Resource System as the backbone of the district curriculum. TRS curriculum is a cooperative effort led by the state Educational Service Centers and in collaboration with educators across the state to develop curriculum that ensures mastery of the state-mandated Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills. The combined effort of the ESCs help school districts improve student performance and operate more efficiently and cost-effectively. RISD curriculum documents are reviewed annually by teacher leaders and revised in response to teacher feedback and analysis of assessment data. From building vital critical thinking, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills to encouraging teamwork, creativity, and high academic and rigorous achievement, instruction is designed to meet the demands of a changing world to ensure that each RISD scholar is college and career ready.
When developing curriculum and planning instruction, educators consider the following questions:
- What do we want students to know and be able to do?
- How will we know if students have learned it?
- How will we respond when they have not learned it?
- How will we respond when they already know it?
