Curriculum & Instructional Materials

The Selection Process

In RISD, Instructional Materials are selected with careful consideration for the needs of our students, teachers, and schools. Through the Texas Instructional Materials Review and Approval (IMRA) process, the district evaluates state-approved instructional materials and how they support Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). The Content Area IMRA Committee is made up of teachers, campus leaders, instructional support staff representing all four learning communities, and parent representation to review materials, participate in publisher presentations, evaluate samples, and curriculum vendors participate in a public viewing before and developing recommendations. These recommendations are then presented to the IMRA Central Committee, and ultimately to the Board of Trustees for approval.
Following adoption, RISD provides an extensive implementation and training plan to support educators in using the materials.

Understand What Your Student is Learning

Families play an important role in a child’s learning journey. Staying informed about the instructional materials used in school helps families understand what their child is learning to build knowledge, skills and confidence.
