Procedures for Initiating a Transfer Request for Incoming Students in Grades K-12

You must first complete the enrollment process via PowerSchool.

Transferred students are not eligible for RISD transportation to or from their requested school.

Transferred students must submit a new request when the family changes residences or transitions from elementary to junior high or middle school or when moving from eighth grade to high school within a learning community that is outside their neighborhood attendance boundary.

Notification of the decision for most transfers is usually provided within 60 days, though due to space limitations and teacher allocations, some transfer requests may not be eligible for consideration until the beginning of the school year.

Transfers are not considered after the start of a semester, except in extenuating circumstances as determined by RISD.

Priority Consideration

A specific link will be forwarded via email, regular mail and Tuesday folders to families of students who are eligible for priority consideration. These include the following groups of students:

  • Mohawk students rezoned for Canyon Creek Elementary
  • Dartmouth students rezoned for Yale Elementary
  • Northrich 4th or 5th grade students who reside in the noncontiguous boundary rezoned for Dover Elementary
  • Skyview 4th grade students who reside in the noncontiguous boundary rezoned for Forest Lane Academy

The window to submit a priority transfer is April 15 to May 1.

  • Students enrolled in the four consolidated campuses (Greenwood Hills, Springridge, Spring Valley and Thurgood Marshal) will receive priority consideration through the RISD intradistrict transfer process. Per district guidelines all transfers will be approved as space allows. Please use the regular intradistrict transfer link and add in the “Reason for Request” that you are from a consolidated campus.
  • All students from consolidated schools and those whose attendance boundaries have changed, including noncontiguous students, will have additional consideration in the elementary magnet process.

Intradistrict Transfer Request

  • An Intradistrict Transfer Request is a request from a family who resides within RISD to attend a school that is not their neighborhood school.

  • Nonresident Interdistrict Transfers for students of employees and peace officers must be submitted annually.
