Transfer Requests

Procedures for Initiating a Transfer Request for Incoming Students in Grades K-12

You must first complete the enrollment process via PowerSchool. Then, complete the transfer request forms online and submit them.  Incomplete forms will not be considered. Links to the forms are included on this page, below.
  • Junior High and High School transfer request forms are available on this site beginning March 1st.
  • Elementary transfer requests will be available beginning April 15th. Any submissions submitted prior to April 15th will not be processed.
Your home school principal, the receiving school principal, and the Executive Director of the receiving school Learning Community will review the request.  In most instances, notification of the decision for a transfer request is communicated within sixty (60) days after receiving a completed request. Please be advised that elementary transfer requests for the next school year are not reviewed until the middle of May. Any requests made for the Spring Semester will be done prior to the close of the Fall Semester.

  Transferred students are not eligible for RISD transportation to or from their requested school.


Even though notification of the decision for most transfers is within sixty (60) days, due to space limitations and/or teacher allocations, some requests may not be eligible for consideration until the beginning of the school year.  Transfers are not considered after the start of a semester, except in extenuating circumstances as determined by the District.
