Badge Requirements for All Students

NEW: All students riding the school bus will be required to scan a district issued badge

Beginning with the 2025-2026 school year, all Pre-K to 12th grade students who ride the school bus to and from school, will be required to wear and scan a district issued badge each time they board and exit the bus.

The new requirement is part of the district’s commitment to prioritize students’ safety. The measure is designed to help us ensure that students are on their assigned bus route, and to provide a quick response in the event of delays, route changes or emergencies.

A few important things to keep in mind:

  • RISD will issue one customized badge for students in grades 3rd through 12th.
  • Pre-k through 2nd graders will be issued two district badges.
  • Badge replacements:
    • In the event that a student loses his/her badge, the district will provide the first replacement for free; a second and any additional replacement moving forward will cost $3 each.
    • Payments can be made at school or online through School Pay.
    • Lost badges will be deactivated and will no longer be good for use. If a student finds his/her old badge after receiving a new one, the old badge must be discarded as it will no longer be active.
  • During the first few weeks of the new school year, Transportation Services staff will make accommodations for students who forget to wear their badge to ensure all students get to school and back to their bus pick up location.
Parents, thank you for your partnership as we implement this new requirement to improve student safety and transportation communication.
