At the June 8 meeting, RISD trustees formally approved Strategic Plan 2023, concluding the first phase of the process that began last year. Strategic Plan 2023 provides trustees, staff, teachers, parents, students, and the community with the district’s strategic direction and goals for the next four years. The strategic planning process relied heavily on parent, community, and student participation, and is based on achieving key foundational goals like the Board’s True North Goal and RISD Graduate Profile.

Goals and actions for year one have been identified, and work is underway to create a public dashboard on the district website where all RISD stakeholders will be able measure progress as work toward plan goals moves forward.

At the May 18 meeting, RISD trustees heard of the actions the school district will be undertaking over the next few years to achieve the board’s stated goals.

As the Strategic Planning 2023 nears an end, enagage2learn’s Thad Gittens presented to the board the guiding principles of the student-focused and community-based process. The purpose of the strategic plan is to define goals, develop specific results, and determine action that lead to achieving RISD’s call to action while reflecting the community’s expectations.

“What we ultimately develop through the strategic planning process will be anchored in actions that are moving this organization further along toward achieving the goals outlined in the Graduate Profile, the board goals, and the board’s true north: every student, every teacher and every leader will meet or exceed their academic growth goals,” Superintendent Tabitha Branum said.

Gittens outlined the five goals identified by the group of nearly four dozen RISD community members that will build upon students’ individual strengths, so that all will grow and graduate empowered with knowledge, life-ready, and a vision for how to thrive. Those goals include: individual growth, staff recruitment and retention, curriculum and learning, community engagement, and financial stewardship.

The design team has been meeting since January to establish these goals as well as the yearly benchmarks that will be a part of the living document that will be implemented, evaluated, and adjusted regularly to meet the district’s context.

The board of trustees will take action on Strategic Plan 2023 at the regular monthly meeting on June 8. Please click here to watch the presentation to the board.
