RISD Closed on Wednesday, Jan. 28

Richardson ISD Closed

Due to continued hazardous travel conditions and below-freezing temperatures expected overnight, all Richardson ISD schools and offices will remain closed on Wednesday, January 28. This closure includes all district operations, including extracurricular activities, athletic games and practices, events, programs, and xPlore. Additional information about athletic practices and games scheduled for Wednesday will be communicated once plans are finalized. The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority.

Several factors were considered in making this decision, including:

  • Forecasted freezing fog Wednesday morning, which adds additional risk to the morning commute for students and staff.
  • Although major roads and highways have been treated, many neighborhood streets remain icy and snow-covered, creating unsafe conditions for buses and neighborhood routes.
  • A significant number of staff members live outside the district, and current travel conditions may make it difficult to safely report to campuses and maintain district operations.
  • District facility teams continue to assess all campuses and buildings for storm-related damage and complete necessary cleanup.
  • Side streets and parking lots across the district have not fully cleared, presenting additional safety concerns, particularly for our teenage student drivers.

We recognize the challenges this creates for our working families and the importance of returning to regular school routines. However, continuing to prioritize the safety of our students and staff is essential.

Thank you for your understanding and flexibility as we navigate this wintry weather together. Information regarding possible make-up days will be shared as soon as it becomes available. In the meantime, please stay safe and warm, and continue to monitor the district website and social media channels for additional inclement weather updates.
