Let the Reading Games Begin! The first-ever Richardson ISD Battle of the Books brought together 8 teams from across Junior High/Middle Schools for a competitive trivia-style showdown built entirely around knowledge of 5 books. The event, spearheaded by the Library and Instructional Technology department, was initiated as a way to ignite the love of reading for secondary students in junior high and high schools.
Each team prepared for months, reading and re-reading, becoming true experts on the stories. Teams were led by their school LITE as they practiced and quizzed each other in preparation for the big event.
The competition took place in three exciting rounds, with 25 questions increasing in difficulty, with points totalled after each round until the winner was crowned. Students had 30-40 seconds per question to collaborate with their teams before arriving at consensus.
Round 1: Identify the Book
Round 2: Short Answer Trivia
Round 3: Short Answer Trivia
Questions dove into plot details, characters, key moments, and more. Every point awarded depended on careful reading and knowledge of the source material. Books included The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin, The Crossover by Kwame Alexander, Amari and The Night Brothers by B.B. Alston, Projekt 1065 by Alan Gratz, and Milo Moss is Officially Un-Amazing by Lauren Allbright. In addition to the questions, teams created their own creative team name and posters.
