Overview
RISD Principal for a Day is a community engagement initiative in partnership with the Richardson Chamber of Commerce where business leaders, community members, and other stakeholders are invited to experience the role of a school principal for a day. The program is designed to build relationships between schools and the community, giving participants firsthand insight into the successes and challenges of school leadership.

Principal for a Day is a unique opportunity for local business leaders, community members, and partners to experience a day in the life of a school principal in Richardson ISD. Participants are paired with a campus leader and gain firsthand insight into the work, challenges, and triumphs of our educators and students.
This program is open to professionals, community leaders, local business owners, and other individuals who are interested in public education and making a positive impact in Richardson ISD.
The day typically begins in the morning around 8:00 a.m. and concludes after lunch. Exact times will vary by campus and will be shared with confirmed participants.
You’ll shadow a campus principal, participate in school activities, observe classrooms, meet with students and staff, and gain a deeper understanding of how RISD schools operate on a daily basis.
Registration opens August 1 and the sign-up form will be available until September 15. Space is limited and participants are selected based on availability and campus needs.
You may indicate a preferred grade level (elementary, junior high, or high school) or specific campus when you sign up. While we try to honor requests, placements are based on availability and district needs.
Yes! All participants will receive a welcome email with additional information and an optional virtual information session to help prepare for the experience.
Business casual attire is recommended. Comfortable shoes are encouraged as you may be walking throughout the school.
