We Read Together

We Read Together is RISD’s volunteer initiative to champion early literacy skills for students.

Students who enter school lacking reading readiness or who don’t read at grade level need additional interventions and resources to catch up to their peers. We Read Together focuses on students in Pre-K through second grade and provides a one-on-one experience for students and volunteers to engage in early literacy activities. We Read Together partners RISD students with committed adults to regularly read, write, and learn together at school.

In the spring of 2022, RISD piloted this program with 100 volunteers at two elementary campuses. For the 2022-23 school year, the goal is to grow volunteer efforts to serve more students at additional campuses. About 600 volunteers are needed to reach this goal.

Please visit the We Read Together website to find out more about the program and how you can get involved.
