At The Richardson ISD Foundation’s 2023 PROM fundraising event, RISD crowned its elementary and secondary teachers of the year!

Mary Altman is a sixth-grade math teacher at Prestonwood Elementary School. Over her eight years in RISD, she has fostered a safe learning environment where students aren’t afraid to take risks and grow from their mistakes. As a member of her school’s event planning committee and co-sponsor of their broadcasting team, Mary works to improve the lives of students and staff alike. Her dedication and enthusiasm shine through in all that she does. Congratulations Mary!

Liberty Junior High’s Ernie Huben is the secondary teacher of the year! His unique use of incorporating music and video games in the classroom to create engaging lessons is just a part of what makes him an outstanding teacher. Not only does Ernie cultivate meaningful relationships with his students, but he also acts as a mentor to his fellow staff members. With his 27 years of experience, Ernie works as a PLC lead to guide and support staff with his knowledge and advice. His work within RISD has supported hundreds of students and staff over the years.

Congratulations again to Mary Altman and Ernie Huben! These two teachers epitomize caring for every student, every day. #RISDBelieves
