2025-26 Calendar Adopted

View Proposed Student Academic Calendars 2025-26

UPDATE:

After reviewing feedback from stakeholders, RISD trustees adopted option B at its Feb. 22 meeting as the district’s 2025-26 school year calendar.

That school year will begin on Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2025, and conclude on May 22, 2026.

Spring break is currently scheduled for March 16-20, 2025, but that may change to align with Dallas College’s spring break.

At the Jan. 18 meeting, RISD trustees were presented with two options for the 2025-26 school year. The committee is made up of central administrators, campus leaders and community members, including RISD Trustee Rachel McGowan.

RISD seeks to create a learning structure that allows all students to thrive while also being able to provide all the necessary support time for teachers. There are a number of state requirements Texas school districts must adhere to when creating academic calendars, such as building in two bad-weather days, ensuring at least 75,600 instructional minutes, and providing for up to 13 days of professional development for teachers. One of the differences between the options is a four-day weekend in October around Fair Day vs. a three-day weekend.

Please take a moment to learn about the two options and use Let’s Talk to provide feedback. The final version of the 2025-26 calendar is expected to be presented to RISD trustees at the February meeting, when feedback from parents, employees, and stakeholders will be shared with the board.
