Dr. Bob Iden graduated from Lake Highlands High School in 1970, as a three-year letterman in football.

He played football at Kilgore College before graduating from UNT with a bachelor’s and master’s in secondary education. He returned to LHHS and taught government, geography and economics from 1978-85, coaching the football team during that time, including 1981 when the Wildcats won the UIL 5A state championship.

Dr. Iden served as principal from 1997 to 2008. In 2001, LHHS was named a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence by the Department of Education; and, in 2008, the LHHS Outstanding Character Award given annually to a senior who embodies responsibility, respect, trustworthiness, caring, citizenship, and fairness was renamed the Dr. Bob Iden award.

“RISD’s long-standing tradition of excellence at both the state and national levels has always been a great source of pride for the district’s employees and the community it serves. Many people who have worked in RISD can readily point to people who were key mentors and guided them toward life-long careers in education. In my case, Bill Georges, the head football coach at LHHS when I was playing, who later became the RISD Food Services Director, comes to mind. He is the reason why I returned to RISD after college, and why I pursued a career in educational administration. Many of my 1970 classmates would quickly mention him, as well as a whole host of other teachers and coaches. Unforgettable experiences, life-long friends, unique esprit de corps are all a part of what make Lake Highlands and RISD special to so many people.”
