RISD is seeking parents and community members interested in serving on three new committees that will begin meeting this semester.

Bond Steering Committee – Will evaluate RISD’s needs related to construction, capital items, and equipment with a useful life of more than one year. Topics like the tax rate, transition to middle schools, and current condition of facilities and equipment will be balanced with RISD’s North Star Goal of academic growth, strategic plan goals, and the RISD graduate profile to arrive at a bond recommendation for elected trustees to consider. Express interest or nominate an RISD stakeholder here.

Staffing Model/Schedule Change Committee – will evaluate the possibility of implementing a schedule change across all secondary campuses and the impact to the district staffing model. The group will study the benefits and drawbacks of the current block schedule model to determine if a different model is a better fit for RISD. Express interest or nominate an RISD stakeholder here. Nominations will close Friday, Jan. 31 at midnight.

Environmental Science Committee – will reimagine the use of the RISD Environmental Center and associated learning opportunities for students, including potential ways to expose more students to unique outdoor learning experiences.

The Environmental Science Committee is a unique opportunity to reimagine how we engage students and the community in environmental education. By bringing diverse voices and innovative ideas together, this committee will design an impactful learning center that inspires a deeper understanding of our natural world and empowers future leaders. Our work begins in March, and we aim to present thoughtful recommendations to the Board of Trustees by May, 2025. Together, we can create a lasting legacy of environmental stewardship and education for our district. Express interest or nominate an RISD stakeholder here
