To recognize the National School Lunch Program, which serves nearly 30 million children each day, Richardson ISD schools celebrate National School Lunch Week from October 13-17, 2025.
As part of the National School Nutrition Association’s theme for National School Lunch Week, the designated theme for our state is: “Texas Taste Tour: Your School Lunch Passport!” to showcase nutritious meals served at school and healthy foods from Texas. Celebrating National School Lunch Week can introduce students to the many ways balanced, nutritious school meals help fuel success. Research shows children are getting their healthiest meals at school.
In addition to observing National School Lunch Week, the district is taking part in The Farm Fresh Challenge, which is organized by the Texas Department of Agriculture. It celebrates local foods served in school meals and aims to support Texas farmers, promote healthy eating, and educate children about where their food comes from.

Each week in October, the Food & Nutrition department is sharing educational activities and posters displayed near the serving line to show students fruits and vegetables that are grown in Texas, and how they are being served and produced for their school lunches. Even items like the tamales and milk are locally sourced. The initiative also encourages students to try new, healthy food items.
“School lunches offer students fruits and vegetables, whole grains and milk, and meet federal nutrition standards limiting fat, calories and sodium,” said Isabell Franzia, Richardson ISD Child Nutrition Dietitian. “These special recognition days and initiatives help us educate students and families about all the wonderful benefits of our lunch program.”
RISD encourages every student to enjoy a nutritious school lunch every day and is thankful for the Child Nutrition staff who keep our students nourished and ready to learn!
