The safety and security of students, staff and visitors in Richardson ISD is paramount. RISD strives to ensure a safe environment for employees to work and students to concentrate on learning, developing and achieving academic excellence.

  • 37 Security Officers – covering elementary campuses
  • 20 School Resource Officers – covering all 12 secondary campuses and Thurgood Marshall SSA
  • 8 Outside Security Guards – 2 per high school
  • 32 Security Monitors inside the hallways across all high schools and the 2 middle schools
  • After-hours and weekend coverage by patrolling Security Guards
  • 13,055 Security Cameras – Cameras are monitored 24/7
  •  I Know What To Do Days – IKWTTDs are spread throughout the year, focusing on an identified protocol for each assigned date. This is in addition to Safety Week, which is done at the beginning of each school year- each protocol is practiced this week.
  • Numerous safety drills are held each year, including the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) – Lockdown, Secure, Hold, Evacuation, Shelter) as well as monthly fire drills.
