The Retired Teachers of Richardson Foundation, which supports Richardson Retired School Personnel in its charitable donations, provides college scholarships annually to graduating RISD students who plan to major in education at a Texas college or university.
The group awarded these three members of the RISD Class of 2021 with a $4,000 scholarship:
- Andrea Hernandez, Richardson High School, will attend the University of Texas (UTeach program), majoring in math education
- Allison Stevens, Lake Highlands High School, will attend Stephen F. Austin University, majoring in elementary/special education
- John Zor, Berkner STEM Academy High School, will attend the University of Texas (UTeach program), majoring in education-dance
Through the RRSP yearly projects and endeavors, retired educators continue to connect with and support the Richardson Independent School District and the Richardson community. Richardson Retired School Personnel members reported 89,606 volunteer hours in 2020. The group also donated nearly 600 books to kindergarten and first-grade students at several RISD campuses this year.
