Experience RISD’s Magnet Schools

Magnet Schools - 2027-28 Magnet & Choice Applications Now Open with campus logos

Richardson ISD’s magnet and choice programs offer specialized, interest-based learning experiences designed to inspire curiosity, build confidence and help students prepare for the future. From elementary through high school, students can explore their interests, develop new skills and build a strong academic foundation through learning pathways that connect classroom experiences with their passions and goals.

With opportunities across a variety of fields, students can discover what excites them, collaborate with peers who share their interests and develop the knowledge and skills to pursue their goals.

RISD Magnet and Choice School Programs Include the Following Areas of Focus:

Elementary

Junior High

High School

Through these experiences, students have opportunities to think critically, solve problems, express their creativity and explore future academic and career pathways.

Campus Tours and Information Sessions

Families are encouraged to learn more about magnet and choice programs by visiting a campus for a school tour or attending an informational session. For dates, times and additional details, visit the magnet page.

Eligibility

Unlike neighborhood schools, which generally serve students based on residential attendance zones, magnet schools and choice programs provide additional options for eligible students outside of their attendance zone. Families residing within Richardson ISD can explore programs that align with their child’s interests and learning goals.

Magnet and Choice Programs Application Deadline: Dec. 18, 2026

All magnet and choice programs require an application. Eligibility requirements and application processes vary by program and grade level.
