All Four Marching Bands Compete in Area Round

Drum Majors from Pearce, Berkner, Lake Highlands, and RIchardson High Schools

All four RISD marching bands qualified and competed in the 6A Area C UIL marching contest in Mesquite, held on Saturday, October 25.

In the preliminary round, 21 bands competed for a score and ranking from five different judges; two marching and three music.  All put on strong performances, and after the preliminary round, Berkner, Pearce, and Lake Highlands advanced to the Area C finals, with Richardson High School finishing in 12th. The top 10 scores from the prelims then competed in the finals in the evening.

Area C Finals Results

  • Pearce High School – 7
  • Lake Highlands High School – 8
  • Berkner High School – 10

Earlier in the month, all four bands earned a Superior rating at the regional marching assessment and qualified for the area contest to participate against marching bands from all across North Texas in the Area C contest.

Jeff Bradford, RISD Executive Director of Fine Arts said, “This is as polished and prepared as I’ve ever seen all 4 RISD Bands in 20 years. I’m so proud of our students and staff.”

Great job to all the students and band directors! It’s been a fantastic season.
