Nine Seniors Named Dell Scholars

AVID

Nine AVID seniors have been named Dell Scholars this year: Dulce Medina, John Nguyen and Santiago Vargas of Berkner; Ana Ramos Crescencio and Jessie Palacios of Lake Highlands; Eduardo Hernandez De La Cruz and Joan Lopez of Pearce; and Diego Espinosa Espinoza and Wendy Gregorio of RHS.

The Michael & Susan Dell Foundation began the scholarship program in 2004 to assist highly motivated and underserved high school students. There are about 500 Dell Scholars named annually across the U.S., and RISD now has 97 Dell Scholars since 2009.

Dell Scholars demonstrate a unique set of characteristics in their quest for a college education: Drive. Tenacity. Ambition. They are students who are motivated and dream big, who know the journey to reach their goals won’t be easy but have the commitment and determination to continue working every day.

The award includes $20,000, a laptop, credits for textbooks, and a personalized, multifaceted support network. Congratulations to the students, parents, families, and teachers! #RISDBelieves
