Important Reminder About Political Campaigns and District Policy

RISD logo

As a public school district governed by Texas law, Richardson Independent School District remains strictly neutral and nonpartisan in all political campaigns and elections. Consistent with the Texas Election Code and district policy, district employees and official representatives acting in their professional capacity do not endorse, support, or oppose any political candidates or parties. District employees are expected to ensure that district resources, communications and activities are not used to promote or oppose any candidate or political campaign.

Richardson ISD is aware of a political campaign flier distributed by a local candidate that features a photograph of Superintendent Tabitha Branum. The district wants to make clear that the inclusion of this photograph does not reflect an endorsement of the candidate or their campaign by RISD or Superintendent Branum.

The photograph was used without the knowledge, authorization or consent of Superintendent Branum or Richardson ISD. RISD remains committed to its role as a nonpartisan public institution and to ensuring that its leadership, resources and reputation are not represented as supporting any political campaign.

The district has requested that the campaign immediately cease the use of Superintendent Branum’s image in campaign publications.

Our priority remains centered on serving the students, families, and staff of RISD and fulfilling our educational commitment to the community.
