Jamf Parent
Introducing Jamf Parent: Your Guide to Managing Your Student's New District iPad
Your student recently received a new district issued iPad device to support their instructional growth and learning in the classroom. The iPad is replacing the previously issued Chromebook.
As a result, the parent management tool has changed and we are providing this information to enable your access to this new tool, Jamf Parent. Jamf Parent allows you to manage your student’s district-issued iPad outside of school hours. This tool, which replaces GoGuardian Parent for students using a district iPad off campus, is available to Richardson ISD families as an at-home management tool.
How to Get Started
To set up Jamf Parent, you’ll need your student’s iPad and a personal device (either a phone or tablet).
- On your personal device, go to Getting Started with Jamf Parent.
- Follow the video and help documents on the website to create your parent account and learn about the available features.
More than one parent or guardian can set up Jamf Parent on their personal device.
Important Information
- Availability: Jamf Parent controls are only active outside of school hours. Richardson ISD manages devices between 6:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on weekdays.
- District Restrictions: All student devices are still subject to some district filters, even when off campus.
- App Downloads: Students can only download apps from the RISD managed app library in the Self-Service app. They do not have access to the Apple App Store.
- Jamf Parent Limitations: Some Jamf Parent options may not work due to district-wide restrictions. For example, since Messages and FaceTime are already blocked on district devices, enabling them in Jamf Parent will have no effect. Similarly, because social media apps are not available to students, restricting them through Jamf Parent is not applicable.
