Law Enforcement Appreciation Day

Richardson Police Badge

Jan. 9 is Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.

There are 30 School Resource Officers working daily to help keep RISD students, staff, and visitors safe. We are all grateful for their service.

The RISD community is mourning the recent death of Dallas Police Ofc. Chris Gibson. Officer Gibson began his tenure in RISD as an SRO at the Lake Highlands Freshman Center in 2002. He spent years patrolling Westwood Junior High and Forest Meadow Junior High and more recently was an SRO at Lake Highlands High School. (Click here to view the NBC5 story.)

“RISD has suffered a tremendous loss with the passing of Officer Chris Gibson,” Interim Superintendent Tabitha Branum said. “His caring professionalism, coupled with a friendly and approachable manner, was popular with students, employees, and parents. We are very grateful for his determined efforts to not only keep our schools safe, but to be a positive role model for students. Chris will be sorely missed by all who knew and worked with him, and we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones.”
