Michael D. McDonald has been named RISD’s new Area Superintendent of the Berkner Learning Community. He comes to RISD from Alief ISD (Houston area), where he served as Associate Superintendent of Secondary Schools.

“I’m honored and excited to return to Richardson ISD,” said McDonald. “The opportunity to serve and support the students, staff, and families within the Berkner Learning Community is very appealing, and I can’t wait to get started.”

McDonald is entering his 25th year in education, and has also served as a special education teacher, coach, assistant principal, and principal. He was an assistant principal at Pearce High School from 2008-2011, and Lake Highlands High School from 2011-2013. He holds a bachelor degree from Jarvis Christian College, a Master of Education degree from University of North Texas, and is currently pursuing doctoral studies through UT Austin.

As an area superintendent, McDonald will supervise Berkner learning community schools, and work with principals, staff, parents and students in  instructional and operational areas. He will formally begin his duties on July 29.
