National Board Certification is the most respected professional certification available in education and provides numerous benefits to teachers, students and schools. It was designed to develop, retain and recognize accomplished teachers and to generate ongoing improvement in schools nationwide.

Congratulations to these seven RISD educators who attained National Board Certification:

  • Brian Harper of Berkner High School – Career and Technical Education early adolescence through young adulthood
  • Bobbie Weir of Richardson High School – Career and Technical Education early adolescence through young adulthood
  • Christine Liou of the RISD iTeam – Science early adolescence
  • Denisse Alvarado of Carolyn Bukhair Elementary – Generalist early childhood

  • Maria Francke-Gonzalez of Dover Elementary – Literacy: Reading-Language Arts early and middle childhood
  • Jennifer McEvoy Washington of Carolyn Bukhair Elementary – Special Education teacher exceptional needs specialist early childhood through young adulthood

“These amazing teachers went through a comprehensive two-year process to earn this designation and as a result, will receive additional guaranteed compensation,” RISD Superintendent Tabitha Branum said. “From demonstrating content knowledge to their ability to differentiate, these educators demonstrated excellence. Less than one-quarter of 1% of all educators in Texas receive this recognition. Congratulations to these outstanding RISD teachers, and thank you for your commitment to your own growth so you can grow your students.”

All seven of the newly National Board Certified educators received nearly $7,000 in Impact Grants from The Richardson ISD Foundation to complete the program.

“We’re thrilled to have played a part in helping these brilliant teachers achieve this milestone in their careers. This is an example of how the Foundation brings the community together to achieve our mission of providing impactful opportunities to all within Richardson ISD,” said Cameka Crawford, executive director of the Foundation.
