RISD’s marching bands continue to be recognized for their brilliance. The Berkner drum line recently won a competition, and last weekend, the Pearce and Lake Highlands bands took top honors in Plano and Midlothian.
The Pearce Mighty Mustang Band finished first overall at the 2021 Plano East Marching Invitational and were named grand champions. The band also won awards for best visual caption, music caption and general effect.
“Huge shout-out to all of our amazing chaperones, loading crew parents, volunteers, families, and friends that came out to support the Mighty Mustang Band,” Director Dimitrios Icossipentarhos said. “Many thanks to these folks whose dedication allowed our incredible students to experience such a special day!”
The Lake Highlands High School Marching Band won first overall and was recognized with the outstanding visual caption at the Midlothian Marching Showcase.
“Thank you to our chaperones, Pit Pops and loading crew, other volunteers, families, and friends who traveled to Midlothian to support the LHHS band,” Assistant Director Clair Pittman said. “We could not do it without your support and help. We are incredibly proud of how hard the students ave been working and are excited for the rest of our season. It’s a great day to be a Wildcat!”
The Pearce band will compete at the Duncanville Marching Invitational on Oct. 23, and all four RISD bands will be competing at the UIL Region 20 Marching Contest on Oct. 13 and the UIL Area B Marching Contest on Oct. 30. #RISDGreatness
