Pearce LITE Helps Student-Athletes Grow Into Leaders

In RISD, school librarians are knowns as LITEs, or Library and Information Technology Educators. All of the LITEs in RISD have classroom teaching experience and a master’s in library and information technology. April is School Library Month, and RISD will be highlighting some of the wonderfully talented LITEs across the district all month.

Ashleigh Osborne has been in education for 10 years, seven as a LITE.

“As a LITE I wear many hats! On a daily basis, I am helping Pearce students access online databases, while curating book lists for library displays, creating monthly challenges to post for our students and making the library a safe space.”

She enjoys sharing her love of books with students and believes her greatest contribution to student learning is serving on the LITE Leads Committee.

“It’s a great feeling when a student comes in after reading a book, and explains to me the connection they had with it. Ordering books is so great because I am constantly thinking of different students and knowing that they will love them.”

Pearce Principal Carrie Breedlove appreciates how Osborne supports every child, every day.

“Students feel safe coming to the library to not just read, but collaborate with each other,” Breedlove said. “This year, Ashleigh started ‘Librarian in the Huddle,’ a group of student athletes who are in a book study and discussing ways to be stronger leaders with their teams. She loves to try new ways to get students and classes into the library. She is a YES person and an integral part of our campus. She is also one of our cheer sponsors and loves to be involved with campus activities.”
