The RISD Council of PTAs installed its 2024-25 board of directors in early May, and a Richardson High School junior is the second vice president of programs.

Dontarious Johnson had been a student liaison to the Council of PTAs previously, but now he is a voting member of the executive board.

“I knew there needed to be a student voice in the room where important decisions about all students are being made,” DJ said. With the support of RHS AVID teacher Beth Brown and the guidance of PTA leader Patsy Stringer, DJ realized he had a passion for advocating for students and wanted to become a more active member of the PTA.

As 2nd VP of Programs, DJ will now create networking events for parents, teachers and students.

“I’m extremely grateful to Meredyth Childress, Carolyn Potter and all of the RHS PTA board for pushing me to expand my commitment to service and allowing me this opportunity to continue building leadership characteristics,” he said.

RISD Council of PTAs President Sarah Barker expects DJ to be a great addition.

“There’s no doubt he is going to be an invaluable asset to the Council next year. DJ has a real passion to help make sure other students know what is going on with the PTA and how the PTA serves all students,” Barker said. “We are all so glad he volunteered to be a part of the executive board and can’t wait to see the programs he helps produce next year.”
