RISD Trustee Karen Clardy will participate in a yearlong education leadership program through the Texas Association of School Boards.

Upon completion of the program, Clardy, a 25-year RISD employee and current board president, will earn Master Trustee status from the statewide nonprofit.

“I am very excited and honored to be selected to be a part of this program,” Clardy said. “This program will provide me an opportunity to learn about best board governance practices from fellow trustees from all over the state. I will be visiting several school districts throughout the year and looking at ways to improve our board procedures and effectiveness.”

The group of Texas school board trustees met virtually recently and heard motivational speaker and author Debra Fine discuss “The Fine Art of Small Talk.”

TASB selected 26 other school board members from across Texas to be a part of its 2020 leadership class that will participate in four more leadership sessions through June. Each session has a unique theme that builds on the previous session and features nationally recognized experts in the fields of leadership development and education, according to TASB, which started its leadership program in 1993.
