A year after Parkhill’s Kelly Mountjoy was the 2023 Texas School Counselor of the Year, two RISD counselors advanced far in the state competition.

Katie Sanders of Arapaho Classical Magnet was RISD’s elementary counselor of the year, and she made it to the semifinals.

Melanie Theissen of Lake Highlands High School was RISD’s secondary counselor of the year, and she was a finalist for the 2024 Texas School Counselor of the Year.
