Chris Gibson Headshot

Christopher Gibson, current Principal of Liberty Junior High, has been named Area Superintendent.

He is an innovative, results-driven educational leader with more than 20 years of experience in instructional leadership, curriculum development, school operations, and staff development. He currently serves as Principal of Liberty Junior High, where he is known for building high-performing teams, cultivating positive campus culture, and implementing data-driven systems that strengthen student outcomes. Throughout his career, Gibson has demonstrated a deep commitment to academic excellence, leading transformative initiatives that have resulted in measurable gains in both student achievement and campus performance.

Prior to joining Richardson ISD, Gibson served as Principal of Mary Lillard Intermediate in Mansfield ISD, where he led the campus to its first-ever “A” accountability rating and guided multiple years of consecutive growth in math and reading achievement.

His leadership experience spans both elementary and secondary levels, including assistant principal roles in Mansfield and Arlington ISDs. In these positions, he contributed to critical school turnaround efforts and instructional improvement initiatives. Gibson began his career as a fourth-grade math and science teacher before transitioning into a role as an instructional coach. His excellence in the classroom was solidified early on when he was named the Grand Prairie ISD District Elementary Teacher of the Year.

Gibson holds an Education Specialist degree in Educational Leadership and is currently pursuing his Doctor of Education degree in Educational Leadership. He is certified as a principal in both Texas and Michigan and holds ESL certifications in both states.

Beyond his campus leadership, he remains actively engaged in professional and community organizations, serving as a PTA board member, and an active member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. His leadership philosophy centers on empowering students, developing educators, and creating school communities where all learners can thrive.

RISD recently named two other new Area Superintendents.

The newly appointed central leaders will assume positions that have become available due to retirements or staff transitioning to other roles.
