Richardson ISD schools and offices, including xPlore after-school programs, will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 9 and Friday, Jan. 10. This decision was made after careful consideration of the National Weather Service winter storm warning forecast, anticipated hazardous travel conditions, and expected extreme temperatures. Closure on Thursday, Jan. 9 includes all games, activities, and events.
Some high school athletic events the evening of Friday, Jan. 10 might be played as scheduled based on conditions later Friday. Players and parents will receive more information from their coaches, and spectators should check the district homepage or social media accounts (Facebook, X) before heading out to a high school game.
RISD stakeholders can stay informed of any additional weather impacts by monitoring risd.org and district social media accounts.
Warming Center Resources
- All Dallas public libraries and recreation centers will be open during posted business hours. The city is also planning on opening Fair Park’s Grand Place building, located at 3701 Grand Ave., as a temporary overnight shelter. The shelter will remain open until nighttime temperatures rise above freezing.
- The East Plano Islamic Center, located at 4700 E. 14th St., will be open Tuesday night. The status of the shelter will be updated daily at the Plano Overnight Warming Station website, and those seeking information on the shelter can call 214-988-9434.
- The lobby space of Richardson’s Police Department Administration Building, as well as Richardson Fire Department Stations 3 and 6, will be available as warming centers for those needing shelter from winter weather. The facilities will remain open until no longer needed.
- Service animals will be allowed, but no pets. Each location has receptacles to allow people to charge phones, laptops, and other electronic devices.
